Back to Booktown - Clunes

When we were driving through Clunes in January we visited the community bookshop where they told us about this event. To give you an idea of the size of this event, Clunes is a tiny town from the gold rush days. On this weekend the whole town opens their shops to booksellers from all over Australia. There are thousands of books both new and used, large publish runs and very small private published books.

During the weekend there are author talks and booksigning events. As well as genreal dicussions on things like book colecting and what you should look for, or, bring your books and have them looked at by a collector who can tell you if they are worth anything (but not value them).

Other things happening in town are the travelling organ as well as a demonstration of a refurnished church organ in the refurnished Wesley Church.

The wet and cold kept the crowds down a little but there were still lot of people.

This is the Belgian made travelling organ, so ornate and beautifully finished.
Front Rear - You can see the flat paper music sheets.

Inside the church the refurnished organ and
the organist discussing what he is about to play.

The inside of the church is also quite beautiful with its finishes.

From the outside.

Some of the kids street entertainment - Punch and Judy.
